Periwinkle has many names, in Tamil it is called Nithya Kalyani,  scientific name is Catharanthus Roseus.  Other English names incidentally utilized like Vinca, Cape Periwinkle, Rose Periwinkle, Ruddy Periwinkle etc.

Periwinkle is best known as a natural remedy to help those with diabetes. Periwinkle is said to control swings in blood sugar. It has a long history of use behind it for that purpose as an herbal remedy.

Periwinkle tea is one of the widely used natural remedies for diabetes treatment. The flowering herb, has been used since ancient times as a herbal medicine to treat several internal and external diseases. The first use of periwinkle for diabetes treatment dates back to the 1920s i.e. even before insulin was discovered.

Many studies found that periwinkle lowered blood sugar levels by promoting the secretion of insulin, a hormone responsible for controlling blood-sugar levels. The findings need to be confirmed as there is a fair chance that periwinkle works by improving glucose utilisation by the tissues.

To make periwinkle syrup, boil periwinkle flower and 3 to 4 leaves in hot water. Let the solution steep for 3 to 4 minutes.  Thereafter, drink it once it becomes warm.

You must drink periwinkle syrup in the morning before you eat breakfast as doing otherwise may upset stomach. You need to continue this for a month to see good results
